Lauren Bluestone – Bio

Lauren Bluestone is the Director of Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC) and has been for the past almost four years.  Bluestone has over 18 years of animal care and control experience, working with open admission shelters and shares a true passion for animal welfare.

Bluestone began her career as an animal caretaker at DuPage County Animal Control in Illinois, and then became an animal control officer with Kane County (Illinois) Animal Control.  At Kane County, she advanced into the role of shelter operations and program manager, managing the operations of Kane County Animal Control through private-public cooperation with Kane County Government and various non-profit rescue organizations.  Lauren Bluestone was superintendent of animal services for the City of Newport News, Virginia. She introduced new programs, formed many positive community relationships, and made staff training a priority.   Most recently she has served the city of Nashville and Davidson County to promote and protect the health, safety and welfare of pets and its people as well as build partnerships within the community to promote responsible pet ownership, decrease the overpopulation of domestic pets through spay-neuter programs, and to place adoptable animals in good homes. 

In her role as director of MACC, Lauren is furthering the effort to continuously improve the quality of life for all different species of animals throughout the community, as well as fostering the personal growth and development of animal care and control staff.   With various partnerships, collaboration, and an amazing staff the shelter has seen a decrease in euthanasia from 86% in 2014 to a 10% average over the past year, an enhanced community education program, and a drastic increase in the productivity and efficiency of field services.

 Bluestone has a Bachelor’s of Science in Zoology from University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Masters in Criminal Justice from Boston University, and a Master’s in Public Policy and Administration from Northwestern University.
